National Expert Downhill Champion Joins the Marin Bikes Family with First Semi-Pro Victory

New Semi-Pro Ian Massey joins the ranks of Shaums March,
current World Masters DH Champion and Mad March Racing Camp
instructor, to ride for Marin Bikes. Ian Massey, the current
Expert National Downhill champion 19-24, started off with a
bang on top of the winner’s podium. Massey’s first Semi-Pro
race for Marin netted him the top spot at the Southridge
Winter Series in Fontana, CA on March 25th. His winning run
time of 02:26.85 was on the new 2007 Quake 7.3.

Massey will focus his efforts on the Downhill and Super D
events this season. He’ll ride the Quake 7.3, part of the Quad
XLT category, and the Wolf Ridge, part of the TARA category.
The Quad XLT suspension design works on a four pivot, floating
swingarm principle, a system unique to Marin. With the Quake
7.3’s 6.7” of rear travel, Massey and March have been extremely
competitive in downhill competition.

The Wolf Ridge that Massey will compete on in the Super D this
season was redesigned based on athlete feedback during 2006;
it receives a more relaxed head and seat tubes, a lowered BB
and shortened chain stays. Both bikes utilize the patented
Quad-Link technology, a system that is highly sensitive to
small variations in the terrain, yet capable of handling larger
hits comfortably.

The goal of Marin’s commitment to athlete partnerships, like
that with Massey, goes beyond improving product development
and supporting the emergent riders in the sport.
